Knocking out the projects, one by one!

I have really been trying to get all my projects done so I can of course start new ones.

I finally got Kristin's quilt done, this was supposed to be a Christmas presents but turned out to be more like a Valentine's gift.

I figured since it was taking me so long to get it done, I would surprise her with a wonderful Minkee backing.

Here is a view of the front of the quilt.

Kristin with her new quilt, she wasn't thrilled that I made her pose in the yarn shop.

I also mentioned in my previous post that I was making some fun pillows to match my new bed quilt. I have two out of the three made and when I get the 3rd made I will post them along with my new bed quilt.

I have been busy learning a new knitting pattern, I won't say how many time I had to run to the knit store for help, but let just say after many attempts I finally got the rhythm of this pattern and I am half way through my daughters scarf.

Hopefully I will be showing you my other projects in a day or two.

Just finished this custom purse, the customer requested I add my ribbon flowers to the front of the bag. Wasn't sure how it would look, but I have to say I really like it.

Loving all the added bling!

So after church I plan on playing with a new foot for my machine.

I know it looks intimidating, but it is a foot to make ruffles and pleats.

Not only is it fast and easy, it will even sew your ruffle to the fabric as it is making the ruffle. Life is good, right!

As soon as I finished playing, I will post some pictures.

When I had my kids Diaper Bags were generic, most were made of some plastic type of material and just plain boring.

I just loved making this great custom Diaper Bag with matching Diaper Wipe Holder.

Don't you love the Pink and Brown combo? Just a soft touch of sparkle with the Pink Swarovski Crystals.

The matching Diaper Wipe Holder is just too cute.

I swear I am going to make one to use as a clutch for an evening out.

I just recently finished a book bag that was supposed to be a birthday gift for a friend. So her birthday was several months ago, it's the thought that counts....right?

I let her picked out her fabric and make some custom pockets choices for her phone and Nook.

As I started making her bag, my daughter Amanda said Mom I really like that fabric, can you make me one just like it!
Then last week my husbands Aunt and Uncle, who were visiting from out of town, came for dinner. His Aunt always wants to see my lastest project and when she saw the fabric she said she wanted something made out of it. If that wasn't enough, yesterday morning I was outside Scotch Garding the finished bag when my husband came out and said, Wow, I really like that fabric.

Okay, I get it, everyone really likes this fabric.
So I got online this morning to see if I could still purchase this fabric and yes I can!

It is called 13 Going on Thirty and it is by Maywood Studio's.

I wish I had a closer shot of the fabric, my son took this picture for me.

The outer handle and inside of the bag is the darker Purple with White polka dots. What you can't see in this picture is the beautiful Swarovski Crystals that I have used to bling out the front flap of this book bag.

Several months ago I finished a quilt for my bed, well kinda finished it.

It just needed the binding. ( like several quilts in my house)

So last night I started sewing the binding on. As I sewed I fell in love with the fabric all over again. Today I am going to make some pillow cases, pillow shams and maybe some throw pillows too!

Now my husband is a hard working, get down and dirty type of macho man, the last quilt I made for our bed made with him in mind. They were darker colors and not very feminine at all.

This quilt ladies....... is all about me!

It is a very simple quilt made with a layer cake and a couple of borders, the fabric is Martinique by Moda. The colors are just soft and yummy.

When I get it finished I will post some pictures.

So my question to you is......... Is you quilt on your bed designed with your husband in mind, or is it all you??????

Do you have UFO's

So last year I started the New Year off saying that I was going to shop from my own stash, which meant use up some of the many yards of fabric I have been hoarding. I have to say, I really did use a lot of it.

This year I decided I was going to finish the many ( not ready to admit just how many.) UFO's. For those of you who do not know what a UFO is, it means Unfinished Objects, projects sound better but doesn't have the same effect. UFP???

Anyway as I started to pull out my UFO's I realized I had a lot more than what I remembered. Did I mention a lot more????

My plans are to post them as I finish them.

I hope I can encourage you to do the same, and please send me a picture of your finished UFO's and I will be more than happy to post them to my blog.

Nothing better than homemade Vanilla frosting.

So everyone was home today and looking for something to snack on. Since I didn't have anything sweet in the house I decided to bake a cake.

Now I did use a box cake mix that I of course doctored but made the best homemade Vanilla Frosting.

Since Amanda and I have kicked it up a notice in our baking I have tried more things from scratch.

Simply Vanilla frosting, no more store bought frosting in this house.

Whip three sticks of butter until it is fluffly and white. Slowly add 4 cups of powder sugar a half a cup at a time. Next add one Tablespoon of real Vanilla extract.

The best Vanilla frosting ever!

My goals for 2012

Okay, I am just going to put it out there and hope by putting it into the atmosphere that maybe it might just come to be.

My goals for 2012 is to figure out what direction to go with my business. I have been putting along for the last two years, doing okay but not soaring.

I want to soar in 2012, I want to take my business to the next level, whatever that may be.

I have a few more items I want to add to my product list and I started a beginning knitting class last night with a vision of a new purse.

I struggled a bit last night and at one point wondered what I was thinking.

REALLY! Do I want to add one more obsession to the mix?

But after clenching my teeth in my sleep all night I got up and started over. I think I am starting to get the hang of the knit stitch, now to master the Purl.

I am going to continue my love of cooking and baking and encourage my daughter with her baking.

I want to do some DIY projects in my home and yard and also take some cooking and baking classes.

I have many UFO's I want to finish this year and even start some new quilting projects.

I would love to start a group for project encouragement, maybe this can be done on my blog. By posting a current project we can keep each other on track and keep following up with each other.

Of course the main project this year will be losing weight and get in better shape.

As always my family comes first but the Lord blessed me with a very supportive husband and two great kids.

I hope to inspire others and wish you all a Blessed New Year.

Quest for the perfect Soft Pretzel Recipe.

Okay if you know me or follow my blog you know me and my daughter Amanda like to make soft pretzels.

We have attempted them many times but always fall short of the "perfect" one.

Today we tried a new recipe off the Food Network website. This one was from

Alton Brown.

Now these look good and taste good but they don't have that chew factor we are looking for. You know, kinda chewy on the outside but nice and soft and doughy on the inside. Our quest will continue. Maybe we will try a recipe I found on the Pioneer Women's site.

New Projects.

I am working on a few new projects for the new year.

I will posted them as soon as I am done.

I have decided not to renew my website. It was such a source of frustration and it really wasn't what I had in pictured my site to look like. So, I will be focusing all my attention on my blog this year.

2011 was a great year, I am looking forward to what 2012 has to bring.

Matching Hat and Purse

I am having so much fun making these hats, I love to hear women say "Oh I love your hats but I just don't look good in hats." When I hear that I ask them to just try one on, it is amazing how they change their minds.

I think the reason most women look good in these hats is because I can custom many areas to fit their head size and shape.

I had a request last week to make a matching Purse and Hat, I am thrilled with the outcome.

I am having major issues with my website, www.Sewbella.net.
So I will be posting my latest One of a Kind products on my blog until I can either resolve the issues or find another web host.
I have really had a hard time finding a web host that does what they claim when you are paying them that large amount of money at the start.
I was with Go Daddy the first year, WOW was that a nightmare.
When I decided to find another web host, I asked lots of questions, told them the issues I had with Go Daddy. They assured me they were nothing like Go Daddy and that their site was very easy to maintain and they used a better software and hosting tools. Well, at this point I am not sure who was worse!!!

With my boutique less than a week away I am starting to feel the pressure.

I have so many more projects I want to make for it, you know so much to do, so little time. My poor family will be getting lots of quick meals this week.

I am really having fun making these cute hats. I wish my photo's did the fabric and colors justice.

I dusted the petals of the flower with a super fine art glitter, it is much prettier in person.

The hat on am working on now is a fun black and white print with a red accent, check back in a few days to see it finished.

Wow, I have been so busy sewing that I just noticed it has been a while since my last post.
Why is it that time goes by so fast during the holidays? November is already flying by.
I have been sewing like crazy for a Christmas Boutique I am in on December 3rd.
One of the items I will be selling are these fun hats.

No more bad hair days with this beauty!

I am also making those cute fabric headbands, I figure with all the scraps I have, I could make them for a year and still have scraps left over. (I knew I was keeping those scraps for something.)

Of course I will be adding cute fabric flowers to those headbands.

I will also have lots of cute Christmas themed table runners.

Well, better get back to sewing!

I had my Big Twist class on Saturday and it was a blast.

We had a fun group of ladies and I discovered that one of the ladies lives on my street. Wow, what a small world and now I have a fellow quilter just doors away.

Here is Ruth's finished quilt top. She is going to add an additonal border to make it a twin size.

You know your class is a success when the students leave the class room to buy more fabric for future quilts using the same technique.

Saturday, Wally and I were watching one of our favorite shows on the Food Channel, Drive In, Dinners and Dives. Guy was at a place that was well known for their wings. As we watch the chef makes his special wings, I started craving wings.

So when my son Jon said he would come by Sunday and stay for dinner, the light bulb went off.

We went to Costco after church(note to self, don't go to Costco after church, everyone else goes there after church.) to get a big bag of wings. I remembered when I was there that they have great Pizza's so we grab on as well.

We marinated our wings in buttermilk, some wing sauce and secret spices.

Wally was the fry man and I made a homemade Ranch Dip and Blue Cheese Dip.

Our wings turn out great!!!

We had a nice family dinner with Jon and Amanda and even enjoyed watching the Bears win. (Okay I switched channels to the Real Housewives of New Jersey during one of the commericals and Jon missed Devin Hessers punt return for a touchdown)

Other then that our evening was a hit. We decided the next time we make wings we will experiment with a few different sauces.

Cupcake Heaven

So Amanda and I used to be obsessed with making cake pops, yes they were cute and fun, but a lot of work. We have now been obsessed with making cup cakes.

We have mastered this very yummy Carrot Cake Cupcake with the best, did I mention the BEST Cream Cheese Frosting.

We had a family get together yesterday and I decided to share these yummy cupcakes with my family.

I wish the quality of the picture was better, the cupcakes on the outer rows have fairy dust sparkles on them.

We found a incredible baking /supply store in Pheonix. Amanda and I walked around for over an hour looking at all the wonderful gagets and baking goods.

We are thinking of taking a few classes.

As most of you know, I lost my Mom to Breast Cancer two years ago.

I miss her everyday but I know she is always with me.

My younger sister has a good friend who was just diagnosed with Breast Cancer and she is about to start her fight against this horrible disease.

I wanted to make her something special and when I saw this fabric the idea just came to me.

I hope that she doesn't lose her hair, but if she does this hat will keep her styling.

Yes, I know it has been way to long since my last post.
I have been busy with all kinds of projects, too many projects.
I have been having all kinds of fun making bows for my daughter, bows on clips, bows on headbands, bows on shoes.
I took a great class at Ribbons and Lace with a few friends and now we are obsessed.
I have also been busy making some samples for some classes I will be teaching in the very near future.
I bought two great patterns for a Funky Peasant blouse and a fun hat.
Once I get organized I will be sure to post pictures of all the great projects I have been working on.

So this week I had a request for a Diaper Bag made with Hello Kitty fabric.

After a few trips to the local fabric stores I found the choices slim.

Yes, they had Hello Kitty but it wasn't the best quality and it was very juvenile looking. I stood in the fabric store and thought to myself, I just can't do it !!! I just couldn't do it !!! So I called the customer and explained my dilemma and said, Trust me, let me pick out a cute fabric and I will find some other way to add Hello Kitty.

Yes, the customer is always right and yes, the whole idea of my One of a Kind Bags is to let the buyer pick and choose what they want. Hate to say BUT , but this time I had to step in.

So here is the Diaper bag with a matching wipe holder. I found a blinged out Hello Kitty and used it for accent on the wipe holder.

I brought it to the customer yesterday and she was thrilled with the outcome.

I am so glad I went with my gut instinct on this one.

Okay, a little while back I posted a new template called Lil Twister. It is a fun and easy way to use up all those charm packs we have all been hoarding. Yes, I said it hoarding !!!

Since I am being honest, I started hoarding Layer Cakes too, here is the quickest quilt I ever made using the larger Twister Template, seriously, it went so fast !!!!

You simply take 36, 10" squares and sew a 6 1/4" border and then cut using the Twister template. Once all your squares are cut, you simply sew them back together.

The great part is, the border is done when you are done with the quilt.

Now you can always add more borders, depending how big you want your quilt.

On this quilt I simply grabbed a 10" square and started sewing, I think I will pay more attention to placement on the next quilt.

Definitely a quilt that can be made in a day !!!

Back to school dress!

So I decided to make a few cute dresses for my daughter Amanda for the start of this school year.

I let her pick the fabric and of course I had to pick one too!!! (some say I am a control freak??)

Since my main sewing skills are quilting I decided to find one of those patterns that claims Quick and Easy on the cover. How hard can it be right? After all I can quilt.

Without going into to too much detail, there was lots of unsewing, some cuss words and lets just say the first dress is now a skirt.

I made a few adjustments on the second dress and it turned out much better.

This is the fabric Amanda picked. Very cute pinks, reds and turquoise, by Micheal Miller.

She was going to wear it the first day of school but than we found out she has PE so it will have to wait until the second day. I will post pictures with her wearing her dress the second day of school.

Okay, one of my girlfriends called me out yesterday, she said, Wow, it's been quite some time since you posted anything on your blog.

I could give you a bunch of excuses why, you know like end of summer, getting kids ready for school, busy working on some projects....etc...yada yada yada.

So instead of doing that, how about a great summer recipe.

Who doesn't like Caprese salad???

Well here is a fun, easy appetizer.

Ingredients are simply, Cherry tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, basil and balsamic dressing.

Oh and don't forget the toothpicks.

This is a great opportunity for the kids to help out and a health snack too.

Summer time, summer time !!!

Yesterday while out running errands we stopped in downtown Chandler at a cute Tea shop called Urban Tea House. We had the best tasting Ice Tea, a mild black tea with a hint of Vanilla. So of course when I got home I just had to duplicate that taste.

Since it was so hot yesterday it took less than an hour to steep my Sun Tea.

I used 4 bags of Luzianne Tea, One tablespoon of Vanilla extract and one tablespoon of Blue Agave.

Now depending on how sweet you like it, you can add more or less of the Blue Agave.

Let me also add that I added the Vanilla and Blue Agave after I removed the Tea from the Sun.

A great glass of Sun Tea with a hint of Vanilla.

New Toy

My partner in crime, Diane and I hit a few quilt stores this weekend and
we came across a new toy.
Yeah I know, do I really need a new template or pattern?

It is called Lil' Twister, it is a template with endless possibilities.
What intrigued me most is that I can use all my charm pack and layer cakes that are collecting Social Security in my stash.
I hope to use it this week, I will post my progress.

Well, I am trying to hold true to the promise I made at the beginning of the year. I was going to shop my own stash.
Over the years I have bought many books, patterns and fabric with the idea that I was going to actually use them. So, this year I decided I bought them for a reason and that I really did love them at the time so I am going to concentrate on using them and getting them completed this year.
I found a beautiful pattern several years ago at a quilt show, so after my search for months for just the right fabric I put them all in one bag so I was sure to keep them together and not accidently use them for something else.
Jump forward a few years later to last Friday. I took those fabrics and pattern out of the bag and decided it was time. Of course they were all folded up nice in that bag and now I needed to iron all those lovely folds out.
I knew I wasn't going to have time to cut them up over the holiday weekend so I needed a way to keep them nice and neat until I could cut them. This is what I came up with.

I took a pants hanger and used it to keep my fabric and pattern together and keep it from getting wrinkled.

Yes sometimes I surprise myself!

My daughter Amanda is my Vanna, maybe I should have had her brush her hair before I took the pictures. Oh well, I am sure one day she will remind me about this. LoL

Getting into Trouble.

Well, Saturday my partner in crime, Diane and I went out for the day.
We originally said we were going to sew but of course decided we needed to go and "see" what was on sale at our local quilt shop.
We got in the car and started heading to one of our favorite shops when I asked if she had been to the new shop in town. Guess what??? She hadn't so my car, on it's own, make a quick U turn and we were on our way to the new shop. It's called Cabbage Rose, and it is in a cute log cabin style building. Wow, does she have some great fabric. Her shop has a very Shabby Chic style, which of course I just love. She also told us she is making a big room in the back for classes and weekend sew ins. How fun is that going to be?
After we left there I asked Diane if she has ever been to the Tempe Yarn & Fiber Shop, again she said no and off we were to another destination.
My Mom was so good at so many different things and of course she loved to knit and crochet. As a kid she tried to teach me but I just wasn't interested. After visiting that shop, I wish I had learned. What amazing possibilities.
You know how I love purses, well they had the most amazing purse made out of wool yarn. So of course my mind went wild and I started to imagine all the wonderful creations I could make. I am seeing a beginning knitting class in my future. SSSHHHHH don't tell my husband.

Avocado and Grilled Corn Salad with Cilantro Vinaigrette

5 Ears Corn, husk removed, brush with olive oil and grilled, remove corn with sharp knife

2 Avocado’s, diced and sprinkled with lemon juice to prevent browning

2 C. Tomatoes, red and yellow cherry variety or equivalent

1 Small red onion, finely diced

¾ C. Feta, crumbled

1 ½ C. English cucumber, skin on and chopped small dice

Add to a large bowl and refrigerate until ready to use.

Cilantro Vinaigrette

6 T. Olive oil

2 T. Sherry vinegar

1 t. Garlic powder

2 T. Fresh cilantro, minced

½ t. Salt

10 Grinds of fresh ground pepper

Add all of the above ingredients in a small glass jar with a lid. Shake really well. Taste and adjust seasoning as you desire.

When ready to serve salad, add the dressing and gently toss.
I have made with and without the Feta and both ways are great.

I can spend hours on this site. The whole concept of this site is to re-pin a picture of something that you love. Now it may be a landscape, food, clothing, a photograph, or a craft.

I have a great project for the Jelly Roll Giveaway !!!

My current project is called Line Art. I found this great, easy pattern in Quilts and More, Winter 2010.

This quilt is still under construction but when I finish I will add a border and it will have a nice new home on my daughters bed.

Basically it is a Jelly Roll with a solid color added on each end of the strips.

I am adding a border to make it big enough for a bed quilt but the original pattern has it without. The pattern can be changed up by placing the strips in different patterns.

Okay, here is another great idea. Get an inexpensive frame with glass.

Take a piece of fabric and wrap it a round the cardboard lining that comes in the frame. Use tape to secure the fabric. Get a dry erase marker and you have memo board.

Have it by a phone for messages, in the kitchen for shopping list, in your child's room for a to do list and great in a college dorm room.

I love this next idea.

My sister is the queen of thrift shops. She always finds that diamond in the rough.

Her latest quest is finding great picture frames. She will find a great frame with a ugly picture in it, remove the picture and use the frame. Now sometimes she will paint them for whatever project she is working on.

They can also be for displaying some of your favorite fabric. Come on, you know you have that special fabric that you just can't cut.

A great use for all those charm packs we have bought over the years.

I love to look at pictures in magazines and on websites.

Take a look at this picture.

I love the lettering above the bed, another great idea for fabric.

Look at the headboard. Most of us now a days when we are purchasing our fabric for a bed quilt we buy extra to make pillows and pillow shams.

How fun would it be to buy a coordinating print to make a head board.

Now I am no carpenter but I am sure it can be make with a piece of plywood, some batting and a great staple gun.

You could take it one step farther and add some fabric cover buttons.

Yesterday we had the cousins over for a day of crafts and girly girl stuff.

We started off with making scrapbook pages.

Our next activity was painting our nails. Where was the camera??? Oh yeah my nails were wet.

Cousin Sheree came to the rescue and showed us how they really are made.

I just love this fabric, it is Martinique by Moda. I know, I love most fabric by Moda. This is going on my bed and I just love all the prints so I kept them large.

I also decided it was time to teach my daughter Amanda how to use the long arm. So I am going to have her make a simply quilt out of charm packs and then have her quilt it. Wish me luck !!!

Don't you just love kids, they don't let you get away with anything. My daughter was sure to point out how long it had been since my last post. I figured I better get busy.
I have been quite busy making all kinds of bags, almost done with a Bella Blossom that is so darn cute I am going to hate to give it away.
Here are some totes I have been working on. They are off to Michigan for some much deserving teachers.

I also made this cute back pack, I added padding and changed it up a bit but I think I still need to tweak it a bit.

Yes, I am jumping for joy, I finally got my website up and running.
I swear it has aged me !!!
I was with another web host and wasn't happy, so I went shopping for new web host and found a cute one.
They are called Cutest Site on the Block. They told me since I had worked with that other web host, (which I will not name but Daddy didn't like them. Ha Ha,) that I should be able to set this site up myself.
Well, I am glad they had the confidence in me..... but I am the creative brain, the one who loves color and fabric not the one who know all the computer tech stuff !!!!
So it took me many months and help from my sister Kathy and my friend Kristin but I am happy to say....drum roll please....

Old brain new trick and how do you finish your seams?

Okay, this may sound strange to most of you but not all quilters can sew other things besides a quilt.
Funny since I started quilting over 10 years ago, I have gotten all kinds of request. Can you hem my husbands work pants, can you alter clothes, can you fix my daughters swim suit, can you cover my patio furniture cushions. Well, no, no and no.
I hated Home Ec., I didn't like making a skirt and back when I was young my Mom tried to teach me to sew my own clothes. I had no interest. But when the quilting bug hit me, it was a whole other story.
So recently I found some cute fabric and thought this would be a cute skirt for my daughter Amanda. How hard can a skirt be, right? So I went to Jo Ann's and looked through the books and found one I thought would work well with the fabric. Friday I get this wild hare to make that skirt for Amanda. So I get out the pattern and go to work. As I am sewing I notice the fabric is fraying. Now I know my Mom didn't have a serger and I know she sewed lots of cloths for us kids growing up. Did she zig zag all those seams?????
What do you do when you are making clothes? Do you have to finish all seam? Can you just get away with pinking the seams?

Any way, here is how Amanda's skirt turn out. It was easy and I see myself making more in the future, but would love some advice on finishing the seams.

I am so proud of my daughter that I just had to share it.
My 10 year old daughter Amanda asked if she could go to Boulder Co. this summer to visit my sister Barb. I told her it would depend on Barb's schedule and how much it would cost to buy a plane ticket.
So she called her Aunt Barb and asked if she could come during the summer for a visit.
Of course her Aunt said yes !!!
So than she asked me what a plane ticket would cost. I said we could probably find a deal but because she would be flying unaccompanied it would cost more.
After a few minutes of silence, she announced she was going to make the money herself for the plane ticket. She came up with a plan and asked if I could start a blog for her.
She said she was going to sell bookmarks to pay for her trip.
She was going to call it Bookmarks for Boulder.
So I got busy and designed a blog page for her and the orders started rolling in.
Since yesterday afternoon she has gotten 11 orders.

Shocked and sad !!!

So I heard there was a new quilt store in my town, oh boy so exited, can't wait to go !!!!!
It was in a beautiful log cabin style building in the oddest part of town, but when I walked in it was like wonderland.
It was so cute, and cheery and the most beautiful fabric that I haven't seen in other shops. I really thought I found my little piece of heaven. That was of course until I picked up a bolt of fabric and the price was $11.25 a yard. I thought no that can't be right, this must just be a special bolt. So I tried to wipe the look of shock off my face and walked around some more. Found another must have piece and when I picked that bolt up it was $12.05 a yard. What !!!!!!!
Now I know people in other parts of the world have had to deal with high price quilt fabric but not here !!!!! They come here to buy our fabric....
I had heard the price of cotton was up and with all the gas and everything else going up but $12.05 a yard....
Such a sad day for me. I guess I will truly shop my own stash for a while.

Acts of Kindness

Wow, the nicest thing was done for me and I need to share it with all of you.
Before my Mom died she bought a beautiful new sewing machine, it was the Bernina 440 Quilters Addition. After she died her machine sat for about a year before I could even think about touching it. I know my Mom wanting me to use it but I just wasn't ready.
So finally my Dad gave me the push I needed to start using it. I took it to the closest Bernina store and got it serviced. Even thought I have been quilting and sewing for years I had been using a Baby Loc and didn't know much about Bernina's. I asked them how much it would cost to take a class on this machine and was told there are several and each one is $50.
Months later my good friend Anna and I went to the Bernina Connection in Phoenix. We both really liked this shop and been to it several times. This day Anna was making a purchase and said to me, you should take your classes here. This got the attention of the women at the register and she asked what class was I looking to take.
I didn't want to go into the whole story so I just told her I inherited a 44o and I need to take the Basic Operation class. She asked if my Mom purchased her machine at their shop, because if she did they would honor her benefits and give me the classes for free. When I explained she didn't they said I should contact the store she purchased it at and ask them if I can take the classes there free of charge.
I explained to the lady that I didn't care for that shop and found they lacked in customer service.
She then said how lucky I was to have inherited that machine. At that point my friend explain that it was very sad to me to have that machine and that it belonged to my Mom who I recently lost to Breast Cancer. The women was very kind and said she understood how hard it must be.
Anna and I let the shop and headed for lunch. Within 15 minutes Anna's cell phone rang and the women on the other end explain she was from the Bernina store we just let and she had shared my story with the own Val Spanks and Val would like to speak to your friend. When I got on the phone Val first said how she was sorry about my Mom and that she has lost her Mom not that long ago and she knows what I was going through. She said her store would like to adopt me and my machine and give me the classes for free.
I really couldn't believe what I was hearing. They tracked us down through Anna's name in the register, found her number and called us.
I attended my first class yesterday and couldn't believe how kind everyone was.
There still is goodness in this world !!!

Shopped my own stash !!!

This weekend my friend Diane and I had our own shop hop. (another Thelma and Louis adventure!)
Okay, I am going to say this because I know my husband doesn't read my blog.... We were so excited to get out and away from our families for the day. We were going to do one of our very favorite things, shop for fabric !!!!!
We travel all over the far east valley and hit 5 different quilt shops. We laughed, stopped and had lunch, shopped some more, got turned around and drove in circles but had a blast.
There was only one thing missing in our great day, we didn't make any fabric purchases ???
What !!!! no purchase !!!! ( Didn't even have to tell a little white lie, No honey I didn't buy anymore fabric.)
We were sad to say there was nothing new that we said" we just have to have it !"
We either already had it or it just didn't move us. We were very disappointed and believe it or not sad.
So the next day we got together to have a sew day. The most amazing things happened !
I started pulling fabric from my stash, I would hold up one group and say, "Remember how excited we were when we both this!" Then I would pull another group out and say, "Oh yeah and remember this great line". Well I won't mention how many groupings I pulled out to prove a point but then it dawned on me. I loved this grouping so much back when, I had to buy it all. So why not get excited again about the beautiful fabric and actually make something out of it! Duh !!!
So I am making my 10 year old daughter, Amanda, the cutest quilt from Sanctuary. A oldie but goodie.

Okay, here it is, my question of the day.
If someone showed you how you can buy safer products for your family, your home and the environment, products that were more cost effective than most store bought brands, than why wouldn't you want that????
I have been sharing this concept with family, friends and acquaintances for months and it always amazes me that people say they are not interested or that they are cutting back due to the economy.
Frankly, I want to shout HELLO !!!!! Your not interested in making your home safer for your family???? You not interested in taking the toxins and poisons out of your families lives?????
Your cutting back??? Do you still brush your teeth? Wash your face, body and hair? Do you still have to wash your cloths???? Clean your house???? Wash the dishes???
Maybe live a healthier life?????
Then why on earth would you pass the opportunity by to do these things????
I wonder if it is because you have to order every month? Again, I want to shout, HELLO !!!
You are going to the stores and purchasing these items monthly anyway, why not simple switch where you are shopping and reap the benefits of living a healthier, safer lifestyle while saving money.

Amazing Skin Care results.

I wanted to send you a quick email. I love some of the Melaleuca products, specifically the body and face products. In the last 6 months I’ve made quite a few changes that have affected my skin.

1. Eating healthier (gluten-free and organic foods)

As some of you might remember, I spoke at a local Mom's group recently and shared with them about all the dangerous toxins in their household cleaning supplies and also many personal hygiene products as well as many baby products.
One of the ladies, Laurie was shocked to hear about the dangers she and her family were exposed to and decided it was time to remove all those harmful toxins from her home.
This is a a note I received yesterday from Laurie.

Just wanted to let you know that I LOVE my Sol-U-Mel - I used it yesterday to clean my baseboards b/c I had never found anything that worked with the cheap chalk like paint that is on them - so I used it and it is AMAZING I sprayed it on and it cut right through the grime and now I don't have baseboard shame anymore! Daryl's story.
Daryl had just bought a Fifth Wheel at my husband, Wally's work. Wally was giving Daryl a walk through of his new Fifth Wheel showing him how everything worked. Wally had noticed Daryl had a back brace on and was complaining of back pain. So Wally mentioned to Daryl that he used to have issues with his back and knees until he started taking a supplement with Glucosamine and Chondroitin. Aches and Pains

Another story....
So my friend April has dealt with back and neck problems for quite some time. She has a Chiropractor and a masseur that she frequently on a regular basis.
Two days after a visit to her Chiropractor her neck had become very stiff and she was in a great deal of pain. She remember me telling her about our pain cream and asked her husband to rub some on her neck. She told me within a few minutes her muscles seemed to loosen and the pain and tension started to let up. Before she went to bed that night she reapplied to her neck and shoulder area. She called me the next morning to tell me how great her neck felt and that she had more mobility in her neck then she has had in years.

My sister Kathy woke up on morning with a terrible headache. After taking some Tylenol and not getting any relief she applied this pain cream to her temples and the back of her neck. Within a half hour her headache was gone. They should seriously rename this cream to Pain go away....

My daughter Amanda had come home from school with a little sore throat and the sniffles.
When she went to bed that night, her sniffles became that annoying drip in the back of her throat and she started to cough. After 20 minutes of listening to her cough in bed, I applied this pain cream to her back and chest. Within 20 minutes she was sound asleep and slept through the night.

If you remember from one of my first testimonial stories this is the same cream that Rudy applied to his knee, for his joint pain.

The answer to that question is yes, I sewed all day yesterday and I will post some of my creations here in the next few days.
I have gotten a few request to make my purse in a smaller version, so I did and will post in the next day or two.
Today I am going to share Julie's story.
Last week I was coming out of the grocery store when I ran into Julie. She was so happy to see me and thank me for sharing this company with her. She has a front load washing machine and said she has hated it because of the musty smell it leaves on her cloths and that she has to leave the door open when the machine is not in use.
I of course don't have one of those fancy machines, but have heard that complaint.
She said since switching over to our laundry detergent she no longer has that smell. She was shocked that she only had to use a 1/2 ounce for her big load and that her clothes came out smelling great. She has always been a dryer sheet kind of gal and says she loves the sheets as well.
Since Julie shared her story with me I have heard that same story from 4 other people.
Imagine spending all that money on a High Efficiency washer only to have it leave your cloths smell musty. I am so glad that our detergent saved the day.

Sheryl had so many stories to share I couldn't decided which one to pick so I decided to post them all.

My story is that I've had an itchy scalp as long as I can remember, I wanted a product to treat my damaged hair, I have a lot of breakage. I am very excited to go talk to the Mom's Club of East Mesa today.
I was part of this group back when Amanda was just a toddler, it was a great opportunity for me to meet other women with young kids. I am so thankful for this group and the wonderful women I met and continue to have great relationships with today.
I am going to speak today about all the toxic chemicals in our homes and lives.
I thought I was very aware of all the toxins in our household cleaning and personal hygiene products, wow !!!!!! I had so much more to learn.
I read about products that I used in my home for years, products that have known carcinogens in them. From as far back as I can remember I used products like Comet and Ajax, I learned that these products contain Silica, Silica is carcinogenic when it occurs as a fine respirable dust. Yes, for years I was breathing this toxin every time I scrub my tubs and sinks.
As I continued with my research I learned the link between these household cleaners and asthma and other respiratory problems, skin conditions and allergies.
I found one study that tested umbilical cord blood and found over 232 chemicals, this wasn't just one cord tested but hundreds. Something else I found was formaldehyde and Dioxane in baby products like lotions, shampoos, liquid soaps, bath washes, bubble baths, baby wipes and toothpaste.

I am not a Doctor, I don't play one of TV, I just do a lot of research on Google. Don't you just love Google??? Sorry, I digress.
Did you know as women we have the highest rate of Autoimmune diseases.

Our bodies are exposed to so many toxins and chemicals that it is working over time, weakening our immune systems and causing to to not function properly.
Think about this, as women we put chemicals on our faces everyday, such a anti aging creams, cosmetics, lotions, we put chemicals on our head such as hair dye, hairspray, gels, etc. We are also the ones who clean our homes, using all those toxins found in everyday household cleaners.

Since starting my purse business I have learned a lot, most of it self taught. Of course, I can't take all the credit for the things I have accomplished, I have had lots of support along the way. My family and friends have been incredible and without them I would not have been able to live my dream.
With that being said, I have spent all morning working on my website. I switched from one web host to another because I found the first one to be so frustrating and time consuming. When I researched this new host I asked all kinds of questions. I was assured this was so easy to do and was told if you did all of your other site with that other company you will have no problem at all working with our system. A piece of cake.
You don't even want to know what I want to do with that piece of cake....
If someone was to ask me today if they should hire someone one to set up their website I would say YES !!!!! Is it rewarding when it is all done, yes, but the time and energy to set it up by far out ways the cost.
I am going to push forward and continue to work on my new website and I hope it will be done by weeks end.
I will let you all know when it is ready for it's close up.

Yesterday we spent a lovely afternoon with my husband family.
During the time there my phone rang a few time regarding my business. I took those calls but may sure I got up and walk away from the family so I would not sitting at the table full of family discussing business. At one point one of my in laws or maybe for this story I should refer to him as a outlaw..... made a negative reference to my business.
Now mind you he has never taken the time to hear the details of my business, asked about this companies history or about the outstanding products this company provides.
Of course I tried to tell him about the outstanding products, tried to share that they are better for you, better for the environment and cost less than the grocery store brands but he didn't hear any of that, he just kept going back to what he believed to be a fly by night multi level marketing company. I shared with him about this companies 25 years in business, how it has received many awards for it outstanding business practices, and how it made $948 million dollars last year, 2010 when the unemployment rate was the highest, foreclosure with at a record high, etc..etc...
Still he focus on the fact they pay their marketing executive differently so it can't be a legitimate company.
My thought is when you have a company that is constantly striving to produce products that help you live a healthier life, offer more cost effective products that are safer for you, your family and the environmental and offer you a opportunity to help your family financially wouldn't you just embrace it and be thankful someone cares enough about you to share it with you????
So I decided I wasn't going to spend anymore time sharing it with him because like my Dad always says "You can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink"

Hope you all have recovered from my TMI post yesterday, I promise Wally's won't be anything like that.
So yesterday I promised to share with you the supplement my husband Wally takes daily.
My husband's job at times can be quite strenuous and very hard on his body. As a result of that he used to have chronic back and knee pain. I used to call him snap, crackle, and pop in the morning because when he got out of bed all his joints would make all kinds of popping and cracking noise.
He started taking a supplement with Glucosamine, Chodrotin, and several other ingredients to help repair, rejuvenate, and replenish the joints.
His pain is gone and so are the snap, crackle and pops.
My son Jon is also on this supplement, over the summer he tore his ACL, he was in a lot of pain and had very little mobility in his knee, his recovery has been a long one but since taking this supplement daily his pain is gone and his knee is starting to feel "normal" again.
My dear friend Joy has suffered with Fibyromialga for many years, she has lived in constant pain and has days she can hardly get out of bed. I recommended this supplement to her and out of desperation she started taking it. I am happy to say it has changed her life. Does she still have this horrible disease, yes, but at least now her constant pain is gone and she has her quality of life back.
I can give you several more stories about this supplement, but this blog post is getting pretty long already.
Today I am off to a quilt show with a great friend, and I am not going to buy any fabric. Yeah right !!!!

Today I am going to share some information and some products that have improved and changed my life.
I titled this post TMI (too much information)because of what I am going to share with you.
Most of my adult life I have dealt with issues regarding my digestion system, some Doctors said it was IBS (irritable bowel syndrome) other said a sensitivity to dairy, either way it was a issue. About 5 years ago the problem got worse when I had my Gallbladder removed.
In September I was introduced to an amazing Wellness company with outstanding products. I started taking their vitamins and a couple different supplements. One of the supplements I take daily is a probiotic called Florify and the other is a fiber drink called Fiberwise.
Now, here is where the TMI comes in, I will try to word this so that I don't scare you all way but for the first time since my childhood I have a normal, healthy, waste removal system.... How did I do?????
Why might you ask would I share something like this on a blog???? Well, I am 48 years old, I have dealt with this issue since my early teens, it took me this long to find something that would help my condition and I want to share it with others.
There are always going to be subject matter that aren't easy to talk about, but by talking about it I just might be able to help improve someone elses life and help improve their health.

Positive Feedback

I am pleasantly surprised at all the positive feedback I have received since I started posting about safer, healthier lifestyle.
It is sad that major companies lure us in with fancy packages, advertising and coupons but mask the fact that they are using dangerous chemicals in their products.
The new J&J commerical talks about other companies not showing you what is really in their products as their camera pans across natural ingredients. Then they show a women cleaning her window with Windex and a little girl running up to the window. Do you know what is in Windex, Ammonia to name just one toxic ingredient. They also have formaldehyde in their baby products, it is used as a preservative. Yikes, what are we using on and around our kids ??? Then we wonder why are kids have asthma, allergies and other disease.
It's not that we are a bad parents because we use these products, it because these large companies spend so much money on advertising and store distribution and manufacturing that they have to cut the cost on the ingredients used in the products.
Not only that, they have shipped out their manufacturing to other countries, did you know 78% of the products that P&G products is made and manufactured in foreign countries.
We already know how China uses lead and other toxins in their products, who knows what else goes on in these manufacturing plants.
Wow, I guess I need to step off my soap box this morning, I got a little carried away, I am just so passionate about sharing a safer lifestyle that if makes me mad these large companies are hurting people.

Little did I know when I set out to find safer, more effective products for my family and my home that I would be helping so many people.
It is true, once I found these products and started using them I just had to share it with my family and friends. I am so glad I did because now they are starting to use these products and seeing the positive results.
My Mother was the most positive person I know, she always looked for the best in every person and every situation, she always said, Something good comes out of something bad. She is still working her magic. I sought out better, safer products because of her cancer. Now I am sharing with others and making a difference, not only physically but in some cases financially. Thanks Mom.

Just wanted to share a few stories about these amazing products I referred to in my previous post.

Red Nail Polish !!! So one of my referrals called me and said his girlfriend spilled red nail polish on his brand new carpet. He said he called two carpet cleaning companies and they both laughed at him and told him there was nothing they could do. He called me and asked if any of the natural products could remove his nail polish. I told him to used one of the products full strength and blot it with a towel. Well, guess what????? It came out.

Another friend I referred to this amazing wellness company had been suffering with Fibroymialga for several years. She was an in home nurse and was not longer able to do her job because of her disease. I sent her an amazing tape of a women who had several Auto Immune Diseases including Fibryo, and was using several of the vitamins and supplements from this company and her life had changed drastically.
My friend ordered these vitamins and supplements and started feeling better within days.

I love sharing this company and the benefits to everyone I know, it has truly changed their lives. I have at least 5 people tell me that their HE front end loading washing machine always left their cloths and towel smelling musty. Since switching to this companies laundry detergent the smell is gone. Not only is the smell gone, this product is more efficient, super concentrated and saved them money.

Sorry, I have been away far too long.
Hope everyone had a nice Christmas and is enjoying the New Year.
I have been busy with a new venture in life. As most of you know I lost my Mother to Breast Cancer over a year and a half ago. We were told by the Doctors that her Cancer was not genetic but environmental and that we needed to remove all the toxic chemicals out of her life and ours as well.
So I went on a search for safer products from all of my families houses. Was disappointed with the grocery store "Green" brands and found the health food store "green" brand far too expensive.
Back in September a friend introduced to Wellness company that had superior products for my home and family. They were products we all use in our everyday life. They were free from chemicals and safe for my family. They had superior vitamins and supplements and the majority of the products cost less then the grocery store brands. So here I found, safer, more cost effective products for my family.
I was so happy with these products that I just wanted to share with all my family and friends. Wally encouraged me to do this as a way of supplementing our family income. He said I was so passionate about the products and the positive effects it had that I should share my excitement and profit from it. I knew there was a good reason I married him.....
Of course, this put my second passion on the back burner but since I have so much more energy now that I am taking vitamins, I know can get back to doing both.

I have been waiting for months to get my hands on Fandango, a wonderful new line of fabric from Kate Spain for Moda.
Not only is this fabric beautiful to look at but it has such a nice feel to it, like butter !!!!!
I had to pace myself so I purchased a few pieces but OMG, I can't wait to go back and get more.
These pieces are going to make gorgeous Purses, Book Bags, Diaper Bags. Hmmm, I need a new Purse !!
This first group is beautiful shades of Tiffany Blue, Greens and Creme. My pictures really don't do it justice. Really the green is a soft dreamy color and it just doesn't show up that way.

The next group is a bright fun Orange, with big beautiful flowers in shades of Peach, and the leaves are that yummy Tiffany Blue surrounded by that dreamy Green.

Last but certainly not the last I buy, he he, is that dreamy Green with Tiffany Blue and Creme, and the accent piece is like the most beautiful Spanish tile you have ever seen, oh boy, am I over the top on this fabric or what????

Finally some new fabric !!!

I finally got around to taking some pictures of new fabric I bought for either a Purse, Book bag or Diaper bag.
I am posting here first, mainly because it is such a pain to post on my website.
This first group is bright and cheery fabric with great shades of Yellow, Black, Gray and White. I love the accent fabric that fades from Black to Gray. The main fabric and Gray accent fabric is a line called Eclipse.

This next fabric I have used before but found a different accent fabric.

These bright cheery fabrics are by Michael Miller. Fun shades of Black, Lime Green, Peach Red and Tiffany Blue.

Next is a line called Meadowsweet by Sandi Henderson for Michael Miller

I just love the shades of Pink, Orange, Peach, Creme, and a punch of Brown.

Okay, fell in love with this fabric, so much so I bought it with out a accent piece to go with it. Oh look, another line by Michael Miller, see a pattern forming? The background on this fabric is a deep Brown, with bright flowers in Pink and Blues and Greens. Love it !!

What's that saying about the shoe makers kids???

Well, I finally got my daughter's book bag done. So it was a week after school started, you know the shoe makers kids.
Every year before school starts Amanda and I go shopping for fabric to make her school bag. Amanda always picks her fabrics and knows exactly where and how she wants them.
This year she decided she didn't want a tote, she was ready for a book bag. She picked a great line of fabric called Sanibel by Heather Mulder Peterson for Henry Glass.
It is such a bright and cheery fabric, much like Amanda.
I love the shades of deep peach, yellow, greens and blues.

Don't you agree, it matches her personality.

Go figure, it's called Belle by Amy Butler.
Don't you just love the great dots by Micheal Miller, my daughter Amanda picked the dots to go with Belle. She has a great eye for color, wonder where she gets that???
I think the pencil case is a great accessory, this customer is going to school in style this year.

Sorry for such a long stretch between post, life is just been crazy. I have been busy as well.
I made and sent a beautiful Bella Blossom off to Tuscon last week only to have it get lost in the mail. I can't believe after all this time and over hundreds of purses and bags mailed out that one got lost in the mix.
Thank goodness I have plenty of the fabric, it was the original Chez Moi from Moda and I fell in love with it so I bought a bunch.
Here is a picture of the original, so if you see anyone walking around in Tucson JUMP THEM !!!!! Just kidding.

I also made this custom Book/Brief case. My customers business color is Red, so the entire bag was made in Red Dimples. Her business has a diamond as it's logo so I made it out of the Swarovski crystals. I was so pleased with the way it turned out. Forgive the picture, you can still see the chalk lines I used to guide me with my diamond shape.

This one has several custom pockets on the inside and was just what she had wanted. Off to make a few more custom bags, promise I will be back to post soon.

Customer Quilt

Just finished this quilt for a customer.
Normally I just do the quilting for customers, but this
one I did from start to finish.

I cut, pieced, and quilted this Brown Bear quilt.

The picture is what it looked like before I loaded it onto my long arm quilting machine.

Below is how it looked after I quilted it. I wish I had gotten a closer shot of the quilting. I used a variegated thread and fun quilting pattern called Popcorn.

Wow, I can't believe it has been almost a month since my last post !!!

I must confess, I have has a little trouble juggling school being out, my son moving home and watching my sister's two young kids for a few days. I just haven't had the time or motivation to get anything done.

I finally got my mojo back and have been busy sewing again. Boy have I missed it!

So here it is at last !!!!!

One of my new designs.

This was a lot of fun to make and I love the way it turned out.

It doesn't have as much bling as my other purses but you know I will find a way to add more.

The flower is made from felt and is a soft yellow color. The center of the flower is an antique inspired button with crystals.

The fabric I used is a Amy Butler that has been in my stash for a while. I have always loved it and was waiting for that special project to use it. Can't wait to get into my fabric stash and make more. Look for future blooms.

The other day, my daughter Amanda said, "Mom you never quilt anymore, all you do is make purses, diaper bags, book bags and totes !"

Well, she is some what right. I spend the majority of my times these day filling orders for my One of a Kind Bags, which I love don't get me wrong. However, my first love is quilting and that is what brought me to where I am now.

So I decided to finish the last quilt my Mom worked on.

Kinda bittersweet.

She made me promise before she passed away that I would finish her quilt and get it quilted so that it could go on my Dad's bed. She had all the piecing done, all I had to do was put on the borders and quilt it.

It took me almost a year to be able to look at much less work on this quilt. But after Mother's Day the time just seemed right and it is now on my machine getting quilted.
It is going to be beautiful when it is finished.
